The Design Inspiration:
In almost every Palestinian home you’ll find the Floral Ceramics pottery mugs, plates and dining wear as a staple in our culture. This pattern on ceramics is famously known as “The Hebron Ceramics”, from the oldest glass and ceramics factory in the city of Hebron “Al Khaleel” in the west bank. They are also popular in Jerusalem old city as that’s where they originated from, by the Armenians in the Armenian quarter neighborhood.
I was inspired by the harmony between the Armenian and Palestinian culture. As this pattern is originally Armenian, brought to Palestine after Armenians fled as they were facing a brutal genocide. They found refuge in Palestine and became citizens of the Holy Land.
I wanted to bring a modern twist to this famous pattern that gives a feeling of “home” for every Palestinian, by painting it on apparels and handbags.
